sigh Firewall

Right, internet is finally up, decent speed i guess, better than that wireless shit i had before. Unfortunatly its firewalled to fuck. Xfire doesnt work. Steam doesnt work. Antivirus doesnt work. I had to configure the net to even get that up and running. Any ideas how i bypass the uni firewall or set up port forwarding???

You should be able to turn the internal modem firewall off from within its control panel. Log onto your modem and there should be a firewall section that you can disable.

There is no physical modem as such. The university is my isp, therefore i connect to them and they connect through to the net and relay it on to me.
There must be a way to port foward to them..........

In that case you are pushing shit uphill mate. You need to contact the Uni Administartor for the connection and ask them to open the ports that you need. From experience dealing with people like this good luck, you will need it. It can only be done from the Uni admins.

do you have a router in your room? otherwise as coach says ...

go to the i.t dept and bring a hammer and demand them to open the ports or ... well you get the point Razz

in your address bar in firefox (don't use IE, it's wrong.) type in 10.1.1.1 - it will take you to your router (maybe...) if there's a username and password try admin for both. That's the default. Then forward those ports!
That works for home networks. They may have something different setup though...
If not send a gift basket to the techies and while they are putting those flash vibrating condoms to use sneak in and hack the systems something chronic.

nah chicken , this is a uni dorm he is in , all there internet traffic is routed thru one hell of a switch and the feel its necessary to block all ports used for p2p programs , all most all games , some places even block chat programs . no way around it other then kidnapping the admins wife and cutting her fingers off and mailing them to him
